Roosevelt Stadium
Jersey City, New Jersey
This is one of Yes most famous bootlegs, and several different versions float around, with different names: Open the Gates, The Story of Relayer Live, etc. It's a radio broadcast, so you can expect the best sound quality amongst all 75/76 shows. This version here is by far the best one. Remastered by Tooleman, a great fan of Yes, it really has a stunning sound.
Yes had their biggest venues in this tour from 1976, and Roosevelt Stadium was one of their best moments. Luckily, this concert was broadcast by a radio station.
Some songs that didn't work well with Moraz were droped from this tour's set list: And You And I and Close to the Edge most notably.
The whole show is a great listening experience, but my favourite parts are the most epic version of The Gates of Delirium; Long Distance Runaround, in its new and beautiful acoustic arrangement, that floated to the solos of Patrick, Steve and Jon.
Roundabout is another killer. The song begins with a great intro with Alan White shining. Later, Steve Howe uses a Relayer-like guitar, and Moraz organ solo is awesome, maintaining the original lines by Rick, but with Patrick's unique jazzy style.
Oh, and check out their cover for I'm Down, by The Beatles! They really rock on this one! Jon reminds me of both Robert Plant and Ian Gillan in this upbeat tune.
Tracks:
Part 1:
WNEW/WMMR DJ's
Apocalypse Intro
Siberian Khatru
Sound Chaser
I've Seen All Good People
The Gates of Delirium
Part 2:
Long Distance Runaround
Patrick Moraz Solo
Steve Howe - Clap
Jon Anderson - Olias Solo
Heart of the Sunrise
Ritual
DJ Chatter #1
Roundabout
DJ Chatter #2
I'm Down

Hello!
It's amanzing!
Thanks! Muchas Gracias! Muito Obrigado!
Your blog is fantastic!!!!
Yes forever!
I was at that show. It was an amazing evening. I had just graduated high school, and it was a wonderful time.
I too was at that show. I arrived with my buds at 10am to get on line so we can get onto the field - which we did. We kept buying cheap weed but were finally successful with the windowpane. I had just dropped out of my 1st year in college and was drifting in the wind. Good times! We heard on WNEW that the lasers had touch the "Twin Towers". I'm 53 now and YES still takes me away.
Best damn show I've ever seen! I graduated in Jersey in 1976! What a graduation gift! Five best Buddies partying our asses off! I'll relive it for the rest of my life!
I wish not concur on it. I think precise post. Especially the appellation attracted me to read the sound story.
The information here is great. I will invite my friends here.
Thanks
Hello. And Bye.
I'm another fan was at the show in Jersey City. Good times indeed. I brought my cousin and this was his first show. He was NEVER the same. :-) Thanks for sharing.
I was at the show. Music was great.
I also remember problems setting up the laser show....they dropped one of the reflecting mirrors and it shattered on the stage and glass went into the audience....also remember the motorcycle gang the "Pagans" in front of the stage causing trouble...the worst was the kid who was stabbed to death in the parking lot after the show we saw fighting and got out of there quick
I think they postponed the next Dead show because of the murder
35 yrs and counting, our first concert together my husband and I then just kids in high school, looking good trying to impress him so, don't know why just had known him for a month and basically just dates with friends, but I felt so alive that night, dancing, I think I did hash for the first time, and god knows what else, but he was a gentleman, just a few kisses that I still remember as being so sweet, he did put his hand in the back pockets of my jeans, and since I was just 15 then that was something, I don't know if he new how young I was, I basically took care of myself since 13 when the family broke up, but I was looking for someone or thing and I found him and 35 yrs later I still remember it like yesterday, and all the other Yes concerts we have seen over the years, I had an operation and an accident happened 3 years ago by 2 yrs prior I had Kidney cancer and that late summer we saw them at the Borgota in AC, NJ, it was windy but I still managed to get up and dance a little as I caught him looking at me, like he did back in 76' I almost cried, he still see's me that sweet little girl dancing and twirling around her head a shawl, I know we will be together no matter what like our vows till death us do part, Yes...
I also remember that killing, shame, a few years after that they had the incidents at other stadium seating and stopped them all together, sucked, we always would send folks in ahead and claim our ground an have a great time, bad luck, I kinda should have known, whenever something good comes the bad too...
Wow so many life stories! You all were very lucky to attend one of the best Yesshows ever, and I thanks you for the experiences shared here.
Just wish I could update the blog more often...
Regards,
Martini

MP3, really? *groans* I am surprised that Tooleman would let you distribute his work this way--or does he know?
Can you please re upload this one!
I was also at the show. Being a huge 16 year old Yes fan at the time, I cut out of a Spanish city-wide test (from Port Richmond H.S. on Staten Island. Any of you guys out there?) on that day to make sure I got there early enough to get a good spot. A small group of us actually walked over the Bayonne Bridge from Staten Island to the Stadium (PRHS is practically under the bridge). We didn't have cars or money for transportation and we weren't familiar with the area on the NJ side. I have no memory of how we found the place. But we did get a great spot near the front of the stage. Unfortunately, I was just behind the biker gang (I didn't know until I saw an earlier post that they were Pagans). I asked one of the biker guys if I could keep an orange juice in their cooler and he was OK with it. Later his girlfriend got thirsty and I lost my drink, although he gave me a beer in return (He didn't seem to care that I didn't drink beer at the time.) I was right there when someone walked through the biker crowd and stepped on someone's foot and a huge fight broke out right there in front of the stage. This was before the music began. As I recall they let us into the stadium before dark. I always thought that the death afterward was connected with that fight but that's just speculation. But I also have a vague memory of one of the bikers asking around for a knife after the fight.
It was a beautiful June day and we were as eager and excited as teens get. Unfortunately, the walk home was no fun even though we were able to catch a local bus to get us closer to the bridge.
I'm still a huge Yes fan and I'm so greatful for the internet which makes it possible to reconnect with things like this.
